RATTANON HOLDS LEAD AS THAIS DOMINATE TOP OF THE LEADERBOARD

11 OCTOBER, MACAO SAR – Thailand’s Rattanon Wannasrichan continued his strong performance on the second day of the SJM Macao Open, carding a four-under-par 66 to maintain his lead at the top with a total score of 13-under-par, two shots ahead of compatriot Gunn Charoenkul.

Following his tied 4th place finish at last week’s Mercuries Taiwan Masters, Rattanon credits his recent success to his putting and driving. Rattanon was once again pleased with his performance: “It’s going well. If I achieve four-under every day, I’m happy.”.

Close behind in second place is Charoenkul, who shot six-under 64 today, with seven birdies and one bogey. Reflecting on his round, Gunn said: “I couldn’t really strike the ball well today, but my putting has been solid. I’ve really been feeling it this week.”

Charoenkul, who has yet to secure a win on the Asian Tour despite being on the circuit for more than ten years, spoke of the motivation he’s drawing from his roommate and fellow Thai golfer Suteepat Prateeptienchai: “Tee (Prateeptienchai) is really igniting the fire in me. He’s already got two wins under his belt, and I’m grinding to get my first.”

Prateeptienchai, who captured the Yeangder TPC title last month, sits in third spot after delivering the lowest round of the day with a bogey-free seven-under 63, highlighted by seven birdies, including a standout 50-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole. He said: “I’m excited about my putting today. I made some great putts, and my tee shots were solid. My strategy for the weekend is simple – keep hitting good tee shots and hope my putter stays hot.”

Other notable performances came from John Catlin, the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, who shot five-under 65 to climb into a tied 5th position. Meanwhile, 2023 Open Champion Brian Harman had a steady round, maintaining a position in the top 10 with a four-under score today.

Defending champion Min Woo Lee matched his first-day score with another two-under-par 68, keeping him in the mix with a four-under-par total heading into the weekend.

Following the cut today, a total of 69 players will compete over the weekend.

This year’s tournament holds special significance, coinciding with the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR. As Macao continues to grow its global sporting presence, the SJM Macao Open stands out as one of the most anticipated events on the Asian golfing calendar.
