SJM MACAO OPEN INSPIRES THE NEXT GENERATION TO DISCOVER THE JOY OF GOLF AT SCHOOL OUTREACH EVENT
13 SEPTEMBER, MACAO SAR – The 2024 SJM Macao Open, proudly title-sponsored and co-organized by SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), will take place from 10 to 13 October at the Macau Golf and Country Club. As part of the effort to inspire more young people to take up golf, the tournament hosted a ‘School Golf Experience Day’ at The International School of Macao.
Chinese golfer and Asian Tour professional rookie Sampson Zheng Yunhe was invited to share basic golf tips and insights from his various training regimes. He, together with professional coaches Ernie Lee from Macau Golf and Country Club and Macau’s homegrown golfer Flair Kuan, guided students and invited them to attend the SJM Macao Open in October to experience the excitement of world-class golf. Ms Porcia Leung, Senior Vice President of Corporate Brand Development and Marketing of SJM, and Mr Nick Chignall, Elementary Principal of the International School of Macau, were also in attendance. SJM’s mascot, “Sam the Rooster,” dressed in his golf attire, added to the fun and overall experience with the students.
Zheng, who started playing golf at the age of nine and recorded his first hole-in-one in 2011, shared: “Golf was central to my development. It started as my favorite hobby and eventually helped me get into my dream university. This sport has given me a clear sense of purpose. Now, as a professional golfer, I aim to perform at the highest level. I hope that the students today experienced the fun of golf and seize the opportunity to participate in more golf events in the future.”
For many students at The International School of Macao, this was their first introduction to golf, and they enjoyed their time learning to putt. One student commented: “I’m really looking forward to the tournament and can’t wait to see the star players in action!”
In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR, the SJM Macao Open returns in October this year. Co-organized with the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, this marks the second consecutive year of SJM’s sponsorship of the event. The tournament highlights Macao’s growing reputation as a “City of Sport,” promoting the integration of “Sports + Tourism.” SJM continues to engage the wider community, encouraging the public to embrace golf and supporting the Macao SAR Government’s vision of “Sport for All”.
